"Golden Money Plant" is a common name for several different plants, but it's often used to refer to the Epipremnum aureum, also known as Devil's Ivy or Golden Pothos. Golden Money Plant has heart-shaped leaves with marbled golden-yellow variegation. It's a trailing vine, making it ideal for hanging baskets or climbing up a support structure.
Golden Pothos thrives in bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light conditions. However, brighter light conditions often result in more vibrant variegation. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Allow excess water to drain away, as the plant doesn't like to sit in soggy soil. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
Well-draining potting soil is best. A mix of peat moss, perlite, and coarse sand works well for Golden Pothos. Golden Pothos prefers temperatures between 60-85°F (16-29°C) and can tolerate average indoor humidity. However, it appreciates occasional misting or grouping with other plants to increase humidity. Feed the plant with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce or stop fertilization in fall and winter when growth slows down.
Regularly prune to maintain the desired shape and to encourage bushier growth. You can also propagate cuttings from the pruned stems. Golden Pothos can be easily propagated from stem cuttings. Simply cut a section of stem just below a node and place it in water or moist potting soil until roots develop. Golden Pothos is toxic if ingested, so keep it out of reach of children and pets. The sap may also irritate the skin, so handle with care and wash hands after touching the plant.
Golden Pothos is relatively resistant to pests and diseases but may occasionally attract mealybugs, spider mites, or scale insects. Inspect the plant regularly and treat any infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
Golden Pothos is a versatile and forgiving plant, making it an excellent choice for beginners or anyone looking to add some greenery to their indoor space. With minimal care, it can thrive and bring beauty to your home or office.
